Critical Task Analysis & Job Safety Analysis Course

Evaluation of critical tasks and workplace situations for potential hazards is the goal of critical task analysis.
A ‘critical task’ is a hands-on physical activity to be performed on the company’s premises that contains a significant element of risk to the worker, to the plant site, or to the environment.
Critical Task Analysis (CTA) is a methodical process used to determine what if any special controls or attention should be put into place when doing non-routine work.
Target Group
Persons with designated SHEQ supervisory and/or management responsibilities:
- SHEQ practitioners
- Department heads and line managers
- Representatives and Committee members
- Subject experts
- Operators
Pre-Requisites
Candidates must have mastered the following knowledge and skills before enrolling on this course:
- Communication skills and competence, including good interviewing technique
- Scope, intent and location of legal standards and recognised codes of Health, Safety and Environmental practice
- Must understand the causes and effects of incidents
- Must understand Risk control methods and options
- Must understand the Principles of Risk weighting
Course Objectives
Learners who complete this course successfully are able to carry out a proper job analysis by identifying and considering all the important aspects of a job.
They will be able to evaluate and document all the critical Health and Safety steps that need to be included in the operating procedure to ensure that effective Risk control measures are identified and documented.
Course Outcomes
At the end of this course candidates will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of the purpose and benefits of analysing jobs and documenting safe work procedures
- Conduct and record an analysis of hazardous jobs
- Document and evaluate written safe work procedures
- Design a post analysis plan to encourage the day-to-day use of the completed documents for coaching, mentoring, job observation, inspections, incident investigations and planned maintenance
